Vice President / Secretary


Mr. Christopher B. Smithers is Vice President / Secretary of the Foundation. He was elected a member of the Foundation's Board in May 1987. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the R. Brinkley Smithers Institute for Alcohol-Related Workplace Studies, ILR School at Cornell University. Mr. Smithers is a Board member of the Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club and a Board member of the Glen Cove Boys and Girls Club.

In 1994 he was elected a member of the Nassau County Chapter of the American Red Cross and a member of the Board of Governors of The National Arts Club, and he also served on the Junior Committee for the Human Society of New York's major fund raising event.

In 1994 he coordinated an innovative alcoholism and substance abuse education program, using Readers' Theater Workshops to teach students about alcoholism and substance abuse, which was a collaboration of The National Arts Club and the Alcoholism Council of New York.

In 1995 Mr. Smithers' work on this project, as well as on the other programs of the Arts Club, was specially recognized and he received The National Arts Club President's Medal Award.

Mr. Smithers was appointed a member of the Advisory Board of The Christopher B. Smithers Chemical Dependency Education & Training Center at CARP (Comprehensive Alcoholism Rehabilitation Program, Inc.), West Palm Beach, Florida in 1997, and is also a member of the Advisory Board of CARP's Board of Directors.
